Situated with the Aegean Sea to the north and the Cretan Sea to
the south, the cooling Meltemi winds soften the strongest heat of
the sun, even in the middle of summer.
The island is only 32 square kilometers, yet, despite its small
size, the dramatic landscape makes it seem much larger. You have
the chance to get to know the small population, yet also enjoy the
privacy of small beaches and grottos on the coast.
The 742 inhabitants live in three small villages (Hora, the
timeless Ano Meria and Karavostasis).
Folegandros - view from Chora towards Ano Meria
The island has a rugged natural beauty unmatched in the
Cyclades.
As you explore it you'll find innumerable tiny whitewashed
churches, even in the most remote areas.
It is a feast for the eye, the painter or the photographer. The
contrast of rough landscape, white houses, the blue sea and the
famous clear light has enchanted artists for decades.
